The Catcher in the Rye- J.D. Salinger
First published in 1951, the book chronicles the coming of age of its protagonist Holden Caulfield, following his experiences in New York City shortly after his expulsion from school. Salinger’s novel has been extremely controversial because of its use of profanity, sexuality, and teenage angst. It has been banned in the United States and Australia.

Banning this book because of profanity, sexuality, and teenage angst is like trying to ban being a teenager. If anything, teenagers might be able to relate to the experiences of Holden Caulfield.
It makes me angry that people try to cover this stuff up. This book is being read in a controlled school environment where the topics and issues can be discussed, and the teachers can re-enforce that foul language is not appropriate. The parents should be more worried about what their kid is watching in an uncontrolled environment; like the R or X-rated movie channel that they watch while mom and dad aren't home, or whatever may be on the internet, or the foul language that their kid is hearing from his friend that lives in a home where that language is used. Are these same parents that ban this book going to try to ban other kids speaking, tv, and movies too?
Get a grip and wake up to reality. Teach your kids about what's wrong and don't just try to cover it up!!!!
